Bali ,Day 1
We travelled in December 2012 from Delhi to the exotic and beautiful island of Bali for Six nights . After two exhausting flights from Delhi to Thailand and Thailand to Bali , nearing a travel time of nearly 12 hours ,we were quite tired by the time we landed there . But within a few minutes of our arrival , the warmth and beauty of this island, charmed us .Right outside the Ngurah Rai Airport in Denpasar (Southern Bali ) ,there is an eye catching statue of the “ flying warrior “ ( I came to understand later that it depicts a scene from Mahabharata and the idol is that of Ghatotkacha ,who was Bhima’s son ) . Bali is dotted with such mesmerizing statues all over , most of them inspired from mythological characters and many Hindu Gods and Goddesses .
Though Bali is a small place ,it has many aspects to explore – the rich cultural and historical heritage , sandy beaches , scenic mountains and paddy fields ,and not to forget ,the marvelous shopping !! So instead of keeping base at a single place ,we split our stay in two different areas of Bali for 3 nights each – the much hyped Ubud and the laid back town of Sanur . From the airport we drove directly to Ubud ,where we had booked a room with the Nefatari Exclusive Villa . And exclusive they surely were !! The ride was scnenic and the greenery of Bali a sight for our sore “City” eyes .
The Nefatari Exclusive Villas in Bali offer a rather offbeat experience to people who want to stay in the lap of nature , away from all the tourist madness that certain places in Bali like Kuta are often subjected to . Each Villa is isolated ,surrounded by high Walls from all sides to ensure privacy ( the significance of which you will soon understand ) and has a private pool of its own .The villas were spacious and tastefully done up in traditional Balinese architecture ,yet had most modern amenities that a normal tourist would demand .The entire property is surrounded by greenery and large trees .For the next three days we felt as if we were almost one with Nature ,waking up each morning with the sound of birds chirping and sleeping each night with the sound of geckos and other insects outside our room .Since we were tired and sleepy when we arrived ,we chose to relax in the remaining part of the day ,enjoying the uniqueness of the Villas and making plans for the remainder of our trip .
